Last week, our primary students had an unforgettable experience learning from legendary Sharon Lowen, an American Odissi dancer! Over the course of the week, students learned the art of Odissi dance, and discovered how to tell stories and express emotions through graceful movements.
Students ended the week of new learnings with an on stage performance at ISD Auditorium. It was fabulous to see so many young dancers showcase their hard work and newfound skills to an excited audience.
We are proud to offer this as an extension to our performing arts curriculum, to help students build confidence, creativity, and a connection to cultural expression.
Our Grade 4 and 5 students recently took part in hands-on workshops held by Smart Air Bangladesh focused on air quality and its impact on the community’s well-being. ♻️☁️ 🌱🌎💚
The workshop is part of the ‘How We Organize Ourselves’ and ‘How the World Works’ units of inquiry, which look at research processes, innovation, invention and design cycles.
Students learned about the Air Quality Index (AQI) and discussed how air pollution is created from street sweepers to major factories, and the effects they have on our health and the environment.
They explored practical ways to reduce pollution in Dhaka such as, follow the daily AQI, wear masks and raise awareness about pollution. Students had the chance to build their own small air filters using fans and various materials to purify the air. It was a fun and educational experience that empowered our students to think creatively about improving air quality in our school and beyond.
A big thank you to the SmartAir Representatives, Boudewijn Sterk, Md. Farhan Masud and Sanjana Hoque, for giving our students amazing learning experiences. 👏🏼

International School Dhaka (ISD) is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School in Dhaka, Bangladesh that was established in 1999. The school enrolls students in the age range of 2–18, from Playgroup through to Grade 12, providing an international education for local and expatriate children living in Bangladesh. There are over 70 international teachers or administrators from about 26 different nationalities.
